RUF & Stock Leafs In rear also
« on: Jan 11, 2018, 07:26:41 PM »
Truck info : 82 shortbed 4x4 everything is stock besides engine mods .

My question & problem- the front leafs are sagging causing the nose of the truck to sag a couple of inches, the rear is fine. I use this truck to haul firewood and hunting dogs no rock crawling or extreme stuff, can I install another set of rear springs from my other 82 parts truck into the front as a cheap way to pick it back up and leave the rear alone. I’m not concerned with ride quality to much, I understand people d the RUF to gain flex and some lift so is there any down side to my idea? I know I’m being cheap but 3 teenagers keep me strapped lol I know I can just buy an “add a leaf but I already have a spare set of rear springs laying around  Thank you in advance for your help

Yeah it can work good.

I did RUFs on my 1980 a while back with the stock steering. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=74809.0

I had to re-drill center pin holes in the top two leaves for the rears to work in the stock location.  You also need to run longer shackles or your shackles will lay out too flat towards the back.  It did work well and ride nice.

If you don't care about flex and ride and want to keep it more simple you can take one of the longer thinner leaves from your rear packs and work it into your stock fronts somewhere.  That works good to spruce up old front springs.  When we did that we got a slightly firmer ride than the rears up front but you get your bump travel back.

The springs settled a bit more after some years and lots of abuse.  I am changing to some old man emu springs now.

I am a ruf fan. Cheap, work very well. Like h8t said, redrill top 2 leafs, build or buy some shackles. Rock out.

Like h8t said. All you have to do is drill the top 2 leaves of the rear packs. The axle stays centered. Stock rears up front with no changing yields a few inches over stock and stay relatively flat.
