8 inch gear swap
« on: Feb 13, 2017, 01:45:54 PM »
My 94 4 runner 2WD has a V6 3.0 and a G02 code on the door jam sticker. After inspection I have determined it has a 4cyl 2 pinon chunk. I have a V6 Turbo 4.10 LSD chunk I want to install. Is their any reason this won't be an easy swap? Thanks in advance for your help

Well the side gears might be a different spline.  I have a buddy who swapped a 4cyl 8' 4.10 into his 2WD and he had to change the side gears to fit the 2WD axle shaft.  Is the V6 out of a 2WD or a 4WD?  That seems to be the difference in spline.

I got the gear off of craigslist and added the LSD unit so I don't know if it was out of a 4 or 2WD. I guess what I want to know is are all axels for my 1994 4Runner 8 inch 30 spline? 2 pinion or 4 pinion. Did they use the same rear axles regardless of the chunk?

On a 4runner I would guess it would be 30 spline.  In a 2WD truck it would more than likely be the 27.

You should just pull a rear axle out and see. And count the splines on that LSD.

I got my answer from a local gear shop. They told me all 86-95 2 and 4 wheel drive 6 lug axles are 30 spline. No matter if they have a 4 cylinder or V6 chunk. Mine is without a doubt an 8 inch with 6 lug wheels. Thanks for your help......
