Check Engine Light vs. Smog guy
« on: May 17, 2016, 05:46:02 PM »
Okay so I know there's a thread on here somewhere about smoging, but I couldn't find an answer to my question there. My  question is this, I have an 84 22r that apparently won't pass smog because my check engine light doesn't turn on, buuuut the 22r engines don't come with one from my understanding but the smog guy says his book tells him they should....so I'm confused now, what am i missing? I pulled my gauge cluster out and there's not even any power going to the bulb outlet for the CEL...

The CA 22r's(at least starting in '86) came with an O2 sensor and an ecu, not sure if they have a CEL.  If your 22r doesn't have an O2 sensor, and no ecu, then it is Fed emissions and shouldn't have a CEL, my '86 Fed 22r doesn't have an O2 or CEL.

Well turns out it was just the guy I was going to.   Went somewhere else and made no changes to the truck and it passed with flying colors, so now I know who to go to!
