1995 Taco - gear driven T/C is shot and need advice.
« on: Jan 30, 2016, 07:48:04 AM »
My current project vehicle has a bad T?C.  It is a stock 1995 Tacoma with the 3.4 and R150F.  The shift lever moves into the 4LO position freely, but I only get a grinding sound and no movement/engagement.  I like in Hawaii, and I have not been able to source a replacement.  I have a 1992 3.0 V6 parts vehicle with the identical R150F.  I am assuming that most of the internals components will transfer between the 2 transfer cases.  They both use 2.28 low range gears, right?  I need some advice.

No idea if they are the same internally but looking up parts should tell you that. If Tacoma and pre-Tacoma V6 t-cases take the same parts doing a parts lookup you're golden.
Nope they have 2.62 of close to that anyway, they are planetary reduction boxes, the gear drive units were only behind 4cyl motors in the early years.
