The right side dash pad of a 2nd gen has some hidden nuts:

The first one is behind the right side air register - you have to remove the register with a stiff putty knife.  It's not easy, but you must push down some clips on the top and bottom of the register that you can't see.  Once you get the register out, you will see the nut you need to remove.  

The second nut is up under the center of the dash - up by the windsheild.  You must remove the glove box and air duct behind it and look straight up from the floor to see it.  A long 3/8" extension really helps with getting this one off....

those vents are hard to get off huh?
