Small update regarding that spare carrier I built:
The owner was able to get it to unlatch while out on the trail a couple times on a snow run. I thought I had addressed the issue but wheeling puts forces on things that you can't always predict. Good news is the stop pin worked but suffered
the old was cut off and a new beefier pin and slide made, almost twice as thick and gusseted
as for the carrier popping open, I was able to torque on the spare when it was mounted vertically enough to re create the force that opened it. The gate would twist enough for the latch end to twist out from under the cap and let the pin jump out of the hole. So to keep it from twisting I extended the stop tab
and then welded on a hook to grab the tab and keep the gate from twisting away
after that I could not get the gate to open with the same force as before so hopefully that solved the issue completely.
For my 84 I was able to get the weber on and all hooked up, only thing left are some wires for electric choke and fuel cut off and I should be ready to start again with tuning and attempting to pass smog
