Oh yeah I see that above, sorry...

This is one of those stupid things, but a few weeks ago while wheeling to feed some horses my truck died and barely idled at all when I restarted it.  My gas pedal went limp.  The throttle cable housing had slipped out of the tab on the top of the valve cover where the barrel adjuster with the two nuts is.  The carb is adjusted by the book and idles fine but still would not idle without the tiny bit of preload on the throttle cable.  When I quikely put it back in the idle was way high because I had the barrel adjuster off a bit...  I later adjusted it back down.

Which leads me to my suggestion: You can do alot of adjustment to idle by backing up the nuts on that cable housing adjuster.  Maybe if you put a bit more preload on the throttle cable there  you could get your carb adjustments to make sense.

If it's not the ignitor or the pickup in the distributor or ignition related and your fuel cut thingy is working right then it may be something just that stupid.
Have you changed the fuel filter?  That's another small dumb thing that has caused crummy idle for me in the past.
