I've run both spooled/welded and Detroit/lockright, the additional tire wear was minimally more one over the other. Remember that if you are on the gas even a Detroit will stay locked in. Only coasting around a corner all the time will make much a a difference in wear. Air or e-lockers are about the best way to save tires.

  my point exactly its smoother having a detroit in the rear but thats 500 dollars your gonna spend to do the same thing as a welded diff will
