I have done quite a bit of snooping around the 4bt forums but i got more interested in the even smaller cummins 4cyl cummins engines used overseas and in tractors/generators here.

They are probably loud as hell, but you can buy some of the models new, get parts for them easily, and they bo
lt up easily to transmissions commonly found here.  To my surprise in the above link, it looks like Nissan may be getting a smaller Cummins; let's hope so.    

I like the idea of the Mercedes swap, too.  It would just be nice to get something really efficient, reliable, and with a ton of torque.
