It's not a fuse, it's a fusible link, which looks like a piece of wire (about 4 to 5 inches) spliced in between the wire going from the battery to the fuse box. A fusible link is designed to melt apart if shorted (like a fuse but better with high current). If that fusible link was cut out and replaced with regular wire then I would highly recommend installing a fusible link back in the circuit. If the fusible link is still there and in good condition, then I would leave it alone. I forgot to take a picture of my and won't be able to until Monday. Can you post a pic of what you got.
