i pretty much staggered the leafs so there was a thicker one then a thinner one... gives it a more progressive spring rate with a nice smooth ride. I would also get some actual leaf spring paint, helps them slide on each other a hell of a lot better.
As far as your hanger location, that's all up to you. What tire size? How many leafs are you running? How high/low do you want it? How long of shackles? Lots of variables that come into play on your own wheeling preference. Basically just experiment with them and find the setup you like best. My
I'd personally move the front hanger forward and run the shackle bolts through the frame. The further forward you go then you can fit bigger meats. I'm getting ready to move my axle 3 more inches forward on my runner and drop the shackle back in through the frame. trying to lower it a few inches since I'm putting a cage in it and I like LOW COG.....
