I have 4.88 gears in my 83, which had a 22r, with 35" tires.  It had good acceleration until about 45mph then it was a dog. Also, once you start going up hills its all over, the speed drops quickly.  If I did it again I would go with 5.29's.  It was that way at least until I finished my 3RZ swap, now I have no problems with power.
83 pickup, 4.88s, chevys in rear, RUF, Dual Transfers, flat belly, 3RZ swap, disc brake x4, rollin on 36" irocs

IF YOU SEE A 20' PAC WEST/CARSON FLAT BED TRAILER FOR SALE CHECK OUT THE STOLEN SECTION.  IT MIGHT BE MINE!!!!
