they are tight.  not so tight to where they are not able to rotate, but tight to where they don't have slop.  i also used lock tight on the nuts to make sure they didn't back off for that exact reason.  they havn't ever come loose.  the only problem i have ever had with mine was when i lost a bump stop on one side.  i could here the shackle rattleing on the frame like glenn said earlier.  but that was it.  great setup.
