I've been doing some research and still haven't come up with a conclusion.  I know toyota has a 6spd manual 4x4 trans available for the 2nd gen tacomas that come behind the 4.0L v6, but I can't find any specs on them on the internet.  If they are anything like the old getrag 6spds that came behind the supras, the bellhousing is not removable.
