I guess it could work but if you have any body filler under the exsisting paint it will look like @$$. If you pull it off it woud be unique though. I sprayed Vansickles tractor paint with hardener on my 4Runner tub. Super cheap and it turned out looking great. They sell some laquer clear coat that can be use with the hardener too. It's only like $25 per gallon.
