There's two hoses that go into the valve cover (both same size diameter).

One is the PCV valve hose (rear), the other an intake for the crankcase (front next to front passenger side valve cover nut).

The front hose connects to valve cover and intake manifold. 
  Pull the hose off and put vacuum cap on manifold.    There should be some air flow into engine from the opening in the valve cover.
