Sounds like the electrical bug is contagious... shortly after your battle everything on mine went on the fritz. One headlight went dim, cig lighter was out, turn signals worked SOMETIMES, and to top it off it finally stopped charging. I ended up replacing all the major grounds, then I took out all the fuses and cleaned the oxidation off the contacts, and tightened everything up. That seemed to solve most of the problems... And the charging problem was something stupid. I thought that I ripped out a ground wire...so I reconnected it to ground...turns out the wire was supposed to be just left alone, connected to nothing. ...The previous owner put in a GM alternator, so it's a little screwy that way... Anyway if you ground it, the truck won't charge. So I'm hoping that's all done.
You make me glad that I rewelded my shock hoop. Mine was kinda screwy and I also thought "It's been fine so far..." But I imagine it was just a couple big bumps away from flying off... Good luck with the parts falling off/shaking apart/ deteriorating stuff... mine seemed to lose something almost every trail run last year. Went wheeling today, and my carburetor shook itself apart. Now I've got an air leak, and i almost sucked some bolts down into the intake manifold... Damn it, will it ever end?
