I have a 3.4 in my 84 and it's pretty tight front to back, my fan is about an inch off the radiator. I think the first gens are a couple inches shorter in that direction, you may have to run an electric fan. For mounts I used the stock tacoma frame mounts and choped about 1" off each one then just welded them to my frame. I don't know what you would do for a tank & keep it smog legal here in CA. I'm using a second gen FI tank with the V6 pump.
Allot of people say the power gains over the 3rz aren't worth the extra weight, that may be, but it sure does run
