It's very easy to get upside down when making payments, especially if your income changes drastically. I've done it and wish I hadn't, especially now that I'm making a lot less than I used to. Luckily, I did put a good dent in my debt before the job change, but it's very tough to keep up with it now and it's very easy to fall a little behind and get hosed.
