Definitely go with the 5.29's, even if you decide to stick w/33's for a while.  With as heavy as Toyota's are, many w/the 22r(e) find the 5.29's and 33's to be a good match.  The engine speed would be about 200rpm's higher for the 33's then the 35's, so it shouldn't effect your highway mileage at all.

If you want to see what the exact rpm difference is at any speed, here is the Marlin's Transmission Gear Ratio Chart to use w/the Drivetrain Calculators link I listed earlier.
'90 black X-cab mod'd 3.0, 33's/4.88's, rear ARB, custom bumpers, sliders, safari rack, etc.
'91 Blue X-cab 22re, 35's/5.29's,Truetrac front, ARB rear, dual cases, and custom Safari flatbed, bumper, interior.
