I have never heard of a Cali cat, weird. I replaced the cat on mine, actually I was so sick of smog issues I took it to my trusted Toyota mechanic and told him to make it pass, and he replaced the cat with this cheesy little thing that is only about 2" thick but it has passed twice now so I would not worry too much about it. I looked up the invoice and he charged me $80 for the cat 4 years ago.
