It depends on whether or not you have the 4 wheel ABS.  That would have the sensors out by the wheels.  2 an 3 gen pickups do not have this that I am aware of.  i dont think that there is a strength difference at all. How are you bending them.  Maybe some trussing to a 4 runner axle is in order.
