I feel the best solution is to mount the solenoid box under the hood and extend the wires so the plug/receptacle can be mounted on the bumper/grill somewhere. It's a pretty easy mod and it is the best way to go all around

How about getting a momentary on DPDT switch and mount it in the dash 8) Then get some small wires for the controller and rewire the switch. Then there will be no need to get out the controller. BTW I wired in another switch to override so my daughter would not accidently "use" it.
