The cheap and dirty trick is as follows:

If the boot is in pieces, remove it.  Get a water pik and a diluted mixture of simple green and water(bout 50/50, hot water plus SG)  Clean the crud out of the thing and rotate it while doing this.  This isn't as good as taking it all apart, but you shoudl be able to get 95%+ of it cleaned out.  Wash it out with clean water and let it dry overnight/for the rest of the day if hot.

Now you have axles without grease and a boot.  Humm...

My cheap and dirty trick with my last CV joint vehicle was to buy two sets of CVs - one slightly larger than the other.  They should fit snugly inside each other.   Get a 6-8 large, wide as possible zip-ties or hose clamps..  You're going to carefully cut a slit in the CV, put it the grease in/etc, zip tie it shut around each indent, then grease and zip tie the second one on top of the first with the slit on the opposite side.   This isn't perfect, but it certainly works as well as the bolt-together CV boots.   It will leak and ooze - so be it.  It should last 3-6 months at a time and hopefully until you get the SAS done.  Considering the PITA that a full CV job is this will at least get you going for a few months at a time.
