the rear diff is easy enough to swap out, that you might consider picking up a spare stock 3rd ($20-$40) and welding it up.  Its some extra work but that way you can swap it in before a trail run and keep your unlocked one for the street.  A rear locker will help you A TON.  Only problem is im not sure your welder is up for the task...
