That stuff is all good (or new) and it would glow red for a good 5 minutes after shutting it down and stay red while running.  Thanks for the info, still would like to see what a 22RE runs at.  Other note, I think my temp guage (stock) is broken, when the head gasket blew I had the thing boiling, but the guage only read half way!?!  I got a new sending unit from Toyota and plugged it into what I thought was the right place (on top of the mnifold, near the head by cylinder 1&2).  Is this right?  If not where does it go and what did i screw up?  What is a normal water temp for the 22RE?
