Either remove your DS, or park on a level surface, and take the tranny out of gear. Turn the diff flange both directions. If the flange pushes out and pulls back in, then the pinion bearings are worn out. If this is the case, when you remove the third member, you will see carvings in the carrier from the pinion hitting the carrier.
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.
