22R and 22RE are exactly the same.  if your engine is '82 or older you have a dual row chain and steel guides that will probably never wear out

however, in '83 toyota's bean counters had them switch to plastic chain guides that break and fall into the oilpan, which allow the chain to slap around in the timing cover and wear it away.  this can case your oil and coolant to mix(not good)
