so i take that the 23 spline input is a whole bunch stronger huh?
So far no one has ever been able to break a 23-spline input gear. It is stronger than the mainshaft of the transfercase.
does this change the over all ratio or does it stay the same?
No, it is the same ratio, 2.28:1. Also aftermarket gear sets are availble in 21- or 23-spline variants as well.
Marlin Crawler is the only company in the world who offers the 23-spline Turbo Input as a Total-Spline™.
when tearing into the internals of a transfercase, are they as intimidating as they look?
No, not at all. The gear drive t/case was designed sometime in the 1970s, so its pretty basic and there is no preloads or shims of anykind. The only tricky thing is that you have to becareful with 3 small detent balls that can be eaisly lost or misplaced, and the oil galleys only work with the troffs facing up or they will not catch any oil and the oil pump will run dry and the t/case will burn up

Everything goes back together excatly the same way as it comes apart. There are no right or wrong ways to tear it down, just tear it down and remember how you did it to reverse the process to build it back together.
