I think it's 1 tooth off if anything, like you said it wouldn't run if it was 180 out, just cought and sputter while cranking over. I should know, every i/o I installed this summer that was built by employee X was 180 out
At this point it could be:
1 tooth off
junked up carb
bad distributor
bad distributor cap, bridging between contacts
I hope it's clear this weekend, and not ass cold. If it is cold, I think I'll chuck a space heater under the engine and I'll be fine
