well 1st of all, the 3.0 v6 was not available until 1988 so if it is a v6 then it was a custom installation.  To answer your question, if you want to convert to a 5 spd you will need a v6 tranny.  The 4 cyl one won't work.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
