There is ~1/4 turn of slop with a Detroit normally. Wait till it locks at 60 on the freeway or ratchets in the store parking lot lol. Yes some slop is normal, you can adjust your driving style to minimize the effects. Mine does not clunk shifting gears unless I am on the gas good.
