I also found the perfect padding for inside the lock boxes in the half doors. It's basically the same rubber foam they use to make flip-flops ("thongs" is no longer a suitable word for this type of foot wear)   

Then I cut the flip-flop (not thong  ) material to the right size pieces I needed and fit them to the box. 

I think I'll get more of the foam rubber padding to line the inside of the ammo can as well.

I'm also gonna make some door panels for the half doors with the same material I used on the ammo can lid.    So far so good.
