Is the chain drive on the 5 speed chains top or forward shift

top shift.  But that isn't the real issue.  Due to the way the auto tranny and transfer case were designed, they can't be run seperated (as far as I know)  they share fluid, and I believe that some of their components also share housings, but I'm not entirely sure.
