I wish I could remember exactly, or find the reference, but I remember reading where some mathmatician figured out you would have to drive a hybrid like 7-10 years before you recoup the extra cost of the hybrid with the gas savings. That of course was based on certain assumptions of gas prices and claimed milage. The other point it brought up was that it carried several hundred extra pounds of batteries, and no one has yet figured out what to do with these batteries, especially if in an accident.

I think a hybrid may be worthwhile if your a city dweller, and never use it on the highway, but not for anyone else.
