For future reference. Above and behind the bracket closest to the handle where handle assembly is bolted to the bottom of the dash. There are two hickies that make the clicking sound as you pull the handle out. They are spring loaded. You have to hold them back out of the notches and the handle will slide back into the tube and allow you to get the cable out.
