Now this is just my opinion but it is what I have learned over many years of building and wrenching. The air charge going into your intake should be as cool as possible. So as far as I am concerned any open element filter under the hood will do more harm then good.

I do not have a snorkel on my rig but I have moved my air intake from behind the headlight to breath the cowl under the windshield. It is completely sealed for deep water crossings. I crossed 4-dice creek one time when my truck was sitting on 33's and the water was hitting the door about three inches below the stock side mirror. That is pretty deep.
