30k miles problems with the 4l60e? must have been towing over 5k pounds with the tranny still in overdrive. gm should have put the 4l80e in the 1/2 tons as well instead of just the 3/4-1 ton. the 10 bolt rear (8.5") will hold up fine behind a 350 and smaller tires, 33"-smaller. with 160k miles would be a good idea to go ahead and get new axle bearings, axle shaft seals, and inspect the carrier.
NOPE. Bone stock commuter Suburban 2wd. It blew the 2nd tranny soon after and warranty was expired on it so the dealer replaced it for him for cost of labor only. He sold truck it with I think 60 to 70k and it was on its 3rd tranny.
Also, my best friends inlaws have an 03 Tahoe 2wd on its second tranny. It was replaced under warranty I know that for sure. So that was less than 36k.
