yes , I also was told today by another person at Advanced Adaptors that I must swap the shift rales out with the old style top shift from a 1984-88 carb 4 cyl.
then there it is. I think they are mistaken though,
any top shift rails should work. if you get the later model ones, you just have to trim the 2/4 rod off.
edit: I just realized what you said, and that you are already top shift. sorry, I get sidetracked. you should be able to cut yours down...
