Speaking of Trans identification...I just got an 81' t-case and what is believed to be an 83' 5-speed trans with t-case in trade for some tires on rims. I'm looking all over this Tranny and I have no idea how to identify it. Any hints?
There will be an 8 digit number stamped at the bottom of the trans, across the back of the cast iron housing right in front and below the aluminun t/case adapter.
It may sometimes be partly blocked by the aluminum housing, and if there is no number found, then it was a new trans sold after 8/84.
The first two numbers are the month, next the year, and then the serial number on the trans.
06300985 would be a June of 83 and the 985th trans built in that month.
It is sometimes possible to i. d. the trans thur the serial number.
What is the number on your trans?
