Hey Marlin,
How could you know if its a L52? Chances are its a L50 since the L52 was not available until 11/1982. The L50 that the truck most likely had does not have a 80mm front bearing but rather a 75mm input bearing, plus it would have a non-sealed output shaft bearing.

The L52 with the 80 mm front input bearing would of been available on 8/82 and newer trucks for the 83 model year, however, I have seen a name plate above the valve cover that showed the L52 in a 3/82 truck?
The rear main shaft bearing that you refer to as the "non sealed output shaft bearing" was only found on the '81-82 L45 4 speed trans. Although it is still available, it shoud not be used. A sealed bearing will last longer and was used in all L50 and 52 trans.
