IIRC the toy front 3rd is the same as rear third, thus it is running on the coast side of the gear. So, by clocking the 3rd 180 you would be driving on the drive side of the ring teeth. Correct that you would then drive backwards. The only way I've heard of flipping a standard 3rd is when folks put the engine behind the cab such as in buggies.
