I must add that I DIG my V8.  I run a SBC 350 and an SM465 tranny.  I have the power to spin 'em real hard when I need to like in sand or mud but still have plenty of torque for crawlin'. 

My opinion is this: 

If your 2F is in good working order you'd be nuts to go through the hassle and expense of swapping it out.  The Toyota I6 is an outstanding motor and you can squeeze a bit more out of her if you need to.

If your 2F is hammered and/or dead then a rebuild will be costly.  At this point an engine swap would be a feasable option.  The SBC is a very common and popular swap and rather straight forward as far as swaps go.  There are other options out there tooif you want something a bit more exotic...
'82 pickup, +3, locked, doubled
'82 pickup, IFS long travel, V8
'85 4runner, V8 rock crawler
