Some companies slash prices to try to develop a loyal customer base, this selling of gears at cost may seem good to the consumer now, But.. if it gets to the point where companies no longer make a profit on gears and don't bother to sell them, then who gets screwed.
I say if you want what AA has, then buy from AA. They probably don't need to make coin off gears as they do so much other stuff, Marlin makes coin and then uses it for research and development to make cool

like the new Total Spline gears and the 2nd generation adapter plate. Thus continuing the gear evolution which benefits all. To some degree you get what you pay for.
