I agree with OOPS, it sounds like a broken/cracked CV, of which the birfield is a variety. But to get to the birfield to check it out, you have to take the hub off. So you could take the hub off, and look at it. If it is ok, take it down to the birfield. Hope you figure it out. Keep us posted!
