I'll make a long story short here... my Taco did the same thing... turned out it was the spider gears in the diff.  I let a "friend" watch it for me while I was deployed and he wheeled the :pokinit: out of the thing and cooked the front diff.  I thought it was my hubs too, but I locked the hubs, put the t-case in neutral and lifted a front wheel.  Since I'm open in the front, I should be able to spin the lifted front tire and spin the driveshaft, right?  Well, it turned for a half a turn, then bound up and released hard and turned another half turn, ect... 

So anyway, you might want to try that before you take anything apart or throw parts at it.
