Hey Bajabooster,

I just did this swap into my 03' tacoma doublecab.  It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be, although I did a lot of research before starting.  I had the auto tranny and swapped in a manual tranny, both had 4x4 trannies.  There is only thing you MUST to check before knowing if it is possible for you to do in the first place.  The crankshaft on your 3.4L v-6 must be factory machined to accept a pilot bearing for a manual tranny.  Most that I have heard of or seen have been machined on both auto's and manuals; however there are a few out there that were not. Once you determine that yours is machined for a pilot bearing, you need to:

1.  Obtain a manual tranny, all the shifters/interior parts, the manual tranny t-case, a flywheel (the auto does not have one) and a new clutch kit.
2.  Relocate your tranny crossmember (I have the front range offroad crossmember so I just moved it back)
3.  Shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front driveshaft (a great time to go with dual cases)
4.  Cut holes in the floorboard to accept all the new shifters
5.  Bypass a few wires to rick the computer into thinking there is an automatic still there (telling the computer the tranny is in park so it will start)
6.  Wire up your reverse lights
7.  Wire in a clutch cancel button and a clutch starter interupt.
8.  install a clutch, master/slave clutch cylinders, and all hydraulic clutch lines In this case you would have to remove the crankshaft and have it machined by a machine shop (not at all a practical solution).

This is about all it takes and you'll have a 5speed!  I have more info on the electrical portion if you need it, feel free to email me anytime.
