I would think bottom end. I would say a rod. either end of it, wrist or connecting rod. Also, may be a valve smackin the piston. Any way you look at it, its bad. Does your friend still run it around like that or does it just sit, might ask how long its been rattlin. Also, drain the oil, look for pretty glitter oil. that will tell you if it is bottom end is donezo!
