It wasn't real clear - what 1 ton axles do you have? D44's aren't any stronger than Toyota axles, but the width is probably necessary to fit the tires with a reasonable height.

I would suggest keeping the 4.10's in it and drive around in 2.28:1 low range (giving you an effective gearing of 9.35), should do OK on the road if you have to.
