there are 3 versions of the 14 bolt from gm.
9.5" 3/4 ton semi-floater. little more expensive to get a locker for and not a full floater (but highly unlikely to break still). offered in both 6 lug and 8 lug.

10.5" ring gear 1 ton full floater. much stronger but also has much less ground clearance (housing can be trimmed). cheaper to get a locker for, and if you should break an axle shaft the wheel wont go anywhere (unlike a semi-floater). comes in both single wheel and dually options, but the hubs are interchangable.

11.5" ring gear 1 ton full floater. this comes behind the duramax and is the strongest.
